What the Insulation Actually Does

PUF insulation — polyurethane foam — fills the space between the inner and outer walls of the boiler. It works exactly like the walls of a quality thermos flask. Once you heat the milk, the foam traps the heat inside and slows its escape.

Without insulation, milk heated to 85°C in a stainless steel container drops to 60°C in roughly 45 minutes in a commercial kitchen environment. Below 60°C, milk starts losing quality for tea and coffee service.

With PUF insulation, milk heated to 85°C stays above 70°C for 4 to 6 hours and above 60°C for 6 to 8 hours. For a hotel serving continuous breakfast service, this is transformative.

The Electricity Math

A 10 litre non-insulated milk boiler with a 2000 watt element needs to reheat every 45 to 60 minutes during a 4-hour breakfast service. That is roughly 4 heating cycles. At 30 minutes per cycle, the element runs for 2 hours total — consuming 4 units of electricity.

The same capacity insulated boiler heats once. The element runs for 25 to 35 minutes — consuming roughly 1 unit.

At ₹7 per unit (commercial rate in most of Telangana and AP), the non-insulated boiler costs ₹28 per breakfast service. The insulated costs ₹7. Per day saving: ₹21. Annual saving across 300 service days: ₹6,300.

When Non-Insulated Is the Right Choice

The non-insulated is not always wrong. It makes sense when:

  • You serve milk only once or twice a day for very short periods
